What better way to capture a moment?

I have been drawing portraits for a little over ten years now, and I’ve been wanting to get into commission work for a while now! I would love to work with you to capture your special moment.

Here is a gallery of ten pieces I selected to showcase my work, along with a the story behind each piece. I hope you enjoy.

Audrey Hepburn

I probably shouldn’t start with my absolute favorite drawing, but here we are. This was one of my first full-sized drawings, maybe that’s why it has such a special place in my heart. This was one of the few I didn’t draw for a specific competition. In my high school art class that I took for 1 year, my teacher was so impressed with my talent that for the whole class I didn’t have to participate in any of the curriculum. She let me just draw, and gave me a 100% in the class. This was one of the drawings I did in that time.

Scott Kemerling

I also drew this during my high school art class. It was made to honor our principal, who was loosing his battle with prostate cancer. He passed away very shortly after I graduated, and was widely respected and greatly missed. I gave a print to the school, and the last time I visited it was still hanging in the hallway.

Elle Fanning

This was also drawn during my high school art class. It was the first one I did during that class. I remember rushing to put the final touches on it, because we had found out last minute about the local youth art league’s yearly competition and I wanted to use this as my entry. The day of the art show when they were going to annnounce the winner, I almost didn’t show up because it was a long drive to get there. I walked in late, just as they were announcing me the winner for my age group and of the $200 prize. I was shocked.

Model unnamed

I think I found this image on Pinterest (I hope that’s not a copywrite issue) and completely fell in love with the drama of it. That hair. Those eyes. Drawing this was a challenge I very much enjoyed, it’s hard to stop staring at.

Model unnamed

Another photo probably off of Pinterest that inspired me. I loved all the little details about this one, I want that shirt in my closet.

Uncle Si Robertson

I drew this one specifically to enter in the Delaware State Fair art competition, back when I used to live in Delaware. I wanted something that was both a new challenge for me (I had never done wrinkles or a hat or a beard or glasses like that before), and that would fit the demographic of fair goers in lower, slower Delaware, as we called it. It won first prize.

Kate Middleton

When she married into the royal family, she quickly became someone I was fascinated by. I chose this image of her because of that fascinator, how cool is that hat?! I drew this in college for an art show that accepted submissions from students outside of the art department (my degree is in psychology). I can’t remember if it won anything, but I loved the experience of being in an art show with so many other wonderful artists.

Kate Winslet

Again, I chose this image to draw because of the drama. I loved everything about the photo, and really enjoyed the challenge of capturing it! I believe I drew it for the student art show also, but all I really remember is that I drew it in college. And that this is definitely my second favorite drawing I’ve done.

Shirley Temple

This one I drew in college for the Christmas edition of the university‘s creative magazine, but I completely misunderstood the submission requirements! I missed the memo that they were specifically looking for poetry, so sadly Shirley Temple did not make that issue. However, I wasn’t that upset because she’s so cute and makes a great addition to the portfolio.

Arrow Cropper

Last but certainly not least is my sweet nephew Arrow, pictured just after his first birthday! I was babysitting him the evening I snapped this picture, and I’ll never forget how giggly and silly and excited about everything he was. He is two years old now, and he looks a little older now but he’s still so silly and giggly! I dare you to look at that little beaming face without smiling back, you can’t do it.

Luna kept interrupting the photography process and really wanted to say hi!

Thanks for scrolling through a few pieces of my work! If you would like to talk about working together for a special moment you’d like to commission, I can be reached by email or on my Instagram. Price points vary with size and difficulty of the work.
